OG playdough recipe

Passed down from generation to generation (just kidding), this is the easiest play dough recipe ever. There are a couple of variations but this one is my favourite. 

There are many ways to make playdough – using a stove-top or using a kettle with boiling water. Personally, I prefer the stove-top method. We find it’s easier to mix the ingredients in the pot and definitely find this recipe to last the longest and stays the softest! It only takes a few minutes to make and it will last for months!

YOU WILL NEED -
1 cup x organic plain flour 
2 tbs x cream of tartar
1/2 cup x organic iodised salt
1 tbs x organic coconut oil 
1 cup x water
food colouring of your choice. We used beetroot latte mix! The reason this works better than beetroot juice is because its mixed with coconut powder and it won't stain. Same goes for turmeric, never just use turmeric in your play dough mix as its a recipe for disaster and stained littles. Aim for a numeric latte mix, it will be based with coconut powder and cinnamon - smells amazing too! 

Mix all dry ingredients together, then add water, coco oil and mix until creamy and smooth.
Add colouring (we used beetroot latte mix) blend until perfect!

Cook over low to medium heat until the dough starts to form, stir and fold it often. When it looks fully cooked, take it off the heat. Let it cool on a sheet of baking paper. Once cooled, give it a roll and kneed to make the dough nice and soft.

 

TIPS -
My kids love loose part play, and they love play dough. Pair those two together and let them go wild! Loose Parts offers many opportunities for children to use natural materials and objects in their environment.
This allows them to make meaning of the natural world around them and manipulate materials however way they would like!
Some ideas for LPP would be themed bits and pieces, for example 'autumn', leaves, gum nuts, dried flowers ETC.  
Or Shells, sand, wooden animals, tea leaves, dried flowers, or even dried black eyed peas, dry lentils, pasta, nuts and seeds! 

You don't have to use organic flour, it won't change the dough, that's just what we use, same goes for salt! Use whatever brand you like. Sometimes if the kids want pink playdough, I use Himalayan, it adds that extra 'pinkness'. You really can't go wrong with this recipe, its easy af :)

Last longer stored in a, air-tight glass container, jar etc.
